The casual conversation sessions, introduced in November, allow Luxembourgish learners to practice the language in a loose setting, without having to think about grammar, by talking about everyday things with a native volunteer.
This does not only benefit the learner: volunteers get to know new cultures, but also approach their own language from a new perspective when explaining a turn of phrase or a rule they may not have consciously considered in ages. Participating volunteers are from all ages and backgrounds.
One of them is Gusty Feyder, who was impressed by the project’s success: “I was surprised by how many people want to learn Luxembourgish, and how diverse they are.”
