The restaurant Waldhaff has been out of service for ten years. The former manager Marc Hobscheit supervised the restaurant for seven years, before a disagreement with the state turned into a judicial affair. He regrets that they had to go to court and eventually close the restaurant because of the terrace that was covered without permission.
The new owner, the commune of Niederanven, intends to relaunch the restaurant. They organsised an architecture competition to determine who would have the honour to renovate the historic building. Fabeck Architectes were the lucky winners.
While parts of the building will be demolished, other parts will be expanded to highlight what is still in good condition. The building’s scope will not be changed, but they are improving the of space – the new plans aim to make the attic and the cellar accessible to the public.
It is still uncertain whether the project can be implemented exactly how the architect has planned. The building is located amid a green zone, so specific authorisations are needed to permit the restoration.
As soon as all the building permits are signed, the restoration can begin. The restaurant is expected to open again at the end of 2028 or the beginning of 2029.
Marc Hobscheit is happy that Niederanven has initiated the revival of the restaurant, stating that the plans look promising to him.
