Flight LG 6991, operated by an Embraer 195-E2 and carrying 37 passengers, the issue was reported shortly before its scheduled arrival time of 7.24am. As a precaution, emergency services at Luxembourg Airport were placed on standby while the aircraft returned.
Despite the alert, the situation remained calm. The plane landed safely, no smoke was reported, no evacuation was required and no hazardous materials were found on board. No one was injured.
When contacted for comment, Luxair said it does not systematically elaborate on every incident involving a flight returning to its departure airport. Asked for further clarification given that the aircraft involved was a brand-new addition to the airline’s fleet, the Embraer E195-E2, the carrier again declined to provide details or specify the nature of the issue. It noted that diversions are not always linked to technical problems and can result from a range of circumstances.
Luxair did, however, confirm that a replacement aircraft was arranged, allowing the 37 passengers to continue their journey to Milan later the same morning.
The incident follows a similar occurrence last week, when a Luxair flight bound for Malaga was also forced to turn back to Luxembourg.
