On Monday, Munhowen announced that the Belgian group Maziers would take over the Horeca delivery side of the Boissons Heintz drinks business, which supplies hotels, cafés and restaurants in Luxembourg. This takeover forms part of the conditions set by the European Commission in the wake of Munhowen’s merger with Boissons Heintz, a former competitor, in recent years.
The merger caused controversy in Luxembourg’s drinks sector, resulting in other stakeholders complaining to the Grand Duchy’s Competition Authority. The case was later referred to the EU Commission, which ultimately ruled the merger could go ahead provided that the catering activities were sold.
Last week, RTL reported a potential deal in which Belgian brewer Maziers, based in Bouillon across the border, would take over the Heintz catering activities. This has now been confirmed.
