Figures concerning pension sums in Luxembourg were released by Minister of Social Security Romain Schneider in response to a parliamentary question.

Schneider's answer to party colleague Mars di Bartolomeo provided an insight into pensions in Luxembourg, after di Bartolomeo drew a comparison with neighbouring Germany.

In di Bartolomeo's question, he highlighted that more than 50% of German residents receiving funds from a private pension receive less than €900 a month, with 70.8% receiving less than €1,200 a month. Citing these figures published by the German government, di Bartolomeo enquired as to the figures in Luxembourg.

As a baseline, those who have worked 40 years in Luxembourg will never receive less than €1,841 a month or more than €8,525 a month, Schneider responded. As for how many individuals took their pension, the number stood at 98,470 in December 2018. Schneider detailed that this figure included early retirement pensions, but not disability pensions.

Schneider also detailed the difference between those withdrawing a full pension after having worked at least 480 months (40 years) in the Grand Duchy, and those who hadn't, as they had worked abroad or been stay-at-home mothers for some time.

35,050 individuals receive a full pension, receiving an average of €3,862 gross per month. As for the remaining 63,420 individuals receiving a pension in Luxembourg, but having worked less than 40 years in the Grand Duchy, they receive an average of €1,266 per month. However, Schneider specified that the majority of those concerned had had careers abroad and are entitled to pensions from these countries.
The second category also distinguishes between those who have not worked the full 40 years in Luxembourg but have worked abroad, who receive an average of €1,244 per month, and those who have not worked the full 40 years, but did not work abroad, who receive an average of €1,455 per month.
