“We do not want to take additional risks”, Minister Bettel formerly announced on Wednesday. With only two months to go until the national holiday, one has to be realistic, the DP politician further noted. Although the situation around the coronavirus is somewhat stable at the moment, infection numbers are still considered to be too elevated to hold any large-scale events on 23 June.
“Festivities will certainly be different from what they used to be two years ago, before the pandemic started. There will not be a formal ceremony at Philharmonie, it would simply not be prudent”, the Prime Minister concluded. The same goes for the traditional military parade.
Bettel further announced that a commemorative ceremony for the victims of the pandemic will be organised: “However, the crisis is not over yet. As longs as our public health officials don’t say that it is alright to gather without masks, we will hold off any formal ceremonies. But there will be a time for remembrance.”
