The Independent Luxembourg Trade Union Confederation (OGBL) announced on Wednesday that Amazon Luxembourg’s management has agreed to allow employees one day of remote work per week following extended negotiations.
The union attributed the change to months of “constructive pressure and persistence” from Amazon’s staff delegation. The new policy, which took effect on 1 July, marks a formal recognition of remote work rights after what the OGBL described as “sustained” discussions.
In a press release, Luxembourg’s largest trade union hailed the agreement as a key advancement in workplace flexibility and employee representation. This outcome not only improves work-life balance but also demonstrates the staff delegation’s effective use of its co-decision rights to address worker demands, the OGBL stated.
An Amazon spokesperson said: “The Staff Delegation has existed at Amazon in Luxembourg for more than 15 years, and we have a strong history of constructive engagement with members on the things that matter most to our teams and our business. We look forward to that continuing.”
The new policy is seen as a step towards greater workplace flexibility for Amazon’s local workforce. The OGBL described the remote work option as a “first step” in improving hybrid arrangements.
