It has been known for two weeks that MP and Echternach Mayor Carole Hartmann intends to succeed Minister Lex Delles as party president. Culture Minister Eric Thill, meanwhile, is aiming to become the new secretary general, taking over from Hartmann in case she ends up succeeding Delles.

On social media, Hartmann announced on Friday that DP Minister Yuriko Backes is running for the position of first vice-president, a post currently held by Family Affairs Minister Max Hahn.

Former party president and ex-minister Corinne Cahen, along with Amela Skenderović, a young co-candidate in the recent European elections, are also running for vice-presidential roles. If elected, this would result in an all-female leadership team across the four top positions.

Notably, current vice-president Claude Lamberty is expected to remain involved in the new party executive. Hartmann in a video released on Friday noted that Lamberty would work alongside Thill as an “experienced municipal representative”.

Such a role does not currently exist in the party’s executive committee.

The DP congress will take place on 27 April. Minister of the Economy, SME, Energy and Tourism Lex Delles had previously announced that he would step down as party president due to time constraints.
