This weekend, the Communist Party of Luxembourg (KPL) celebrates its 105th anniversary. Ahead of the celebrations, on Friday morning leader Ali Ruckert announced on Radio 100,7 that he intends to step down as president at the next party congress.

The journalist and editor-in chief of the party’s newspaper, “Zeitung vum Lëtzebuerger Vollek”, has led the party for more than 25 years, operating as the face of the Communist Party in Luxembourg.

In Friday’s interview, Ruckert said he intended to remain politically active within the party. It has not yet been decided who will replace him as the head of the party.
