The Water Management Administration has announced that the alert relating to cyanobacteria blooms in the Haute-Sûre Lake has been lifted. A statement published on Thursday further conveys that recent “analyses by the Luxembourg Institute of Science and Technology (LIST) have shown that concentrations of cyanotoxins that can cause health problems in humans and animals have also fallen considerably.”
The “sharp decline” in biomass concentration of cyanobacteria, commonly known as blue-green algae, is attributed to seasonal climate changes in the area.
With the alert being lifted, recreational and sporting activities in the lake can once again resume. However, it should be noted that the swimming season in Luxembourg will end on 30 September.
