Although the number of hospitalisations increased last week, the situation in intensive care units remained unchanged.

Infections and hospitalisations

During the week from 5 to 11 July, 828 people tested positive for the coronavirus in Luxembourg, a 5% increase compared to the previous week at 787. The number of direct contacts that were identifiable increased by 30% to reach 2,890. The number of PCR tests also increased last week, with a total of 43,284 executed. During the same time period, 17 people registered a positive rapid test.

The rate of active infections has also risen over the course of a week: from 825 on 4 July to 1,547 on 11 July. 69,891 people have officially recovered from a Covid-19 infection. The average age of infected people decreased from 28.9 to 27.9 years.

More people had to be hospitalised because of Covid-19 last week. The number of regular patients increased from three to six, with an average age of 45 years. The situation in intensive care units remains unchanged with one patient. One new death was reported in relation to the coronavirus.

Reproduction and incidence rates

Last week, the incidence rate decreased from 2.10 to 0.93. The positivity rate for commissioned tests, those from the LST, as well as those from contact tracing all decreased from 2.22% to 1.91%. The seven-day incidence rate has increased from 124 to 130 infections per 100,000 citizens.

Most infections were recorded in the 0-14 age group (+76%). Similarly, there was an increase in the 15-29 group (+2%), in the 45-59 group (+5%), as well as in the 60-74 group (+6%). 80% of all positive cases last week occurred in the 15-29 and 30-44 age groups.

Out of the 828 new cases, 22.5% got infected via family members, 20.3% during leisure time, 7.1% in schools, and 6.5% during holidays. In 32.2% of cases, no infection source could be determined.

Quarantine and isolation procedures

Both the rate for enforced quarantine (+44%) and isolation (+165%) drastically increased between 5 and 11 July. A total of 2,576 people had to quarantine, while 1,563 people were forced into isolation.

Vaccinations

More than 37,100 doses were administered last week. 20,766 people received their first jab and 16,377 their second one.

As of 14 July, 279,242 people count as fully vaccinated.
