On Thursday, Labour Minister Georges Mischo addressed the Chamber of Deputies regarding Luxembourg's unemployment situation.

"Our priority is and always will be keeping people in employment, looking at new perspectives and working towards a resilient, sustainable and inclusive economy," Mischo said.

In response to a question submitted by the DP's André Bauler, Mischo said that the construction and manufacturing industries had suffered the most in recent years, accompanied by a significant decline in employment. Between 2020 and 2024 the construction industry saw a decline of 3%, while manufacturing dropped by 2%.

One of the reasons for the decline was the reduced demand on the housing market. But while there were challenges, there were also solutions, Mischo continued, highlighting the increase in training courses offered by the National Employment Agency (ADEM). He added that the government will continue to focus on qualifications, forming partnerships with business and creating a long-lasting modernisation of the labour market.
