Luxembourg and Cape Verde have extended key cooperation agreements on water, sanitation, and employment during a working visit by Cape Verdean Prime Minister José Ulisses Correia e Silva.

Cape Verdean Prime Minister José Ulisses Correia e Silva is conducting a working visit to Luxembourg from 16-19 October, culminating in a meeting with Prime Minister Luc Frieden.

In a statement, both governments highlighted the "excellent relations of friendship and trust" between the two nations, which they said are founded on shared values of democracy, the rule of law, and human rights.

The meeting yielded concrete progress, with the two leaders formally extending two bilateral cooperation agreements. The renewed accords focus on water and sanitation initiatives and employment policy.

Prime Minister Frieden also expressed Luxembourg's solidarity with the people of Cape Verde in the aftermath of Storm Erin, which recently caused severe flooding and fatalities. Both leaders acknowledged the swift and direct humanitarian aid provided by Luxembourg in response to the disaster.

Beyond formal diplomacy, the visit also touched on lighter topics. Photographs shared on social media by officials, including Foreign Minister Xavier Bettel, indicated that football was on the agenda. The discussions celebrated Cape Verde's historic qualification for the FIFA World Cup – a sporting achievement that has so far eluded the Grand Duchy.
