AXA Luxembourg has launched a 24/7 helpline and support service for victims of domestic violence, creating a new safety net for its home insurance customers.

The AXA Luxembourg group has launched a new support service for victims of domestic violence, including a 24/7 helpline.

The insurer draws a comparison between the aftermath of domestic violence and the destruction caused by a fire or flood, noting a home can become equally uninhabitable. In response, AXA has introduced an additional guarantee for its existing home insurance customers. It is important to note that this is not a standalone insurance policy, but an enhancement to current contracts.

A 24/7 helpline

The service addresses a growing concern in Luxembourg, where police figures indicate a 17% increase in domestic violence cases. Its primary function is to provide quick and safe alternative accommodation for victims.

In practical terms, the guarantee offers any victim of domestic violence temporary accommodation for seven days. AXA confirms that this includes transport, psychological support, and the ability to bring children and pets. A specialised team is available around the clock to assess each situation and, if necessary, help secure new accommodation for the victim as quickly as possible.

Octavie Dexant, CEO of AXA Luxembourg, elaborated on the concept: "We will take the person, they will be welcomed. When people arrive at a hotel, there's an emergency kit with all the immediate necessities. We then ask the victim within three days – that's the only requirement we have – to contact one of our six partner associations to help prepare for the next steps. For our part, we will manage the emergency, but the idea is for the person to be able to receive long-term help."

This guarantee applies not only to physical violence but also to psychological, sexual, or financial abuse.
