Hundreds of drivers were fined during a back-to-school road safety campaign as police tightened checks around schools last month.
From 15–30 September, the Grand Ducal Police carried out targeted checks around schools, focusing on the safety of children on their way to and from class.
The campaign revealed widespread violations of the traffic code:
- 280 fines were issued for illegal parking
- 200 drivers were caught speeding
- 43 seatbelt violations were recorded (21 adults and 22 minors)
- 17 fines concerned the absence of an approved child seat
- 11 drivers were penalized for using a mobile phone while driving
In total, 551 on-the-spot fines were issued over the two-week period. Police did not disclose how many checks were carried out in all.
