Over the past few weeks, international media outlets have published profiles for the future Grand Ducal couple ahead of their ascension to the throne this weekend.

Celebrity media is often driven by sensationalist articles, paparazzi images and indiscretions. But in this instance, the foreign media pieces on future Grand Duke Guillaume and Grand Duchess Stéphanie paint a flattering portrait, presenting their careers and aspects of their personalities.

Vanity Fair: Will Stéphanie be a 'more classic' Grand Duchess than Maria Teresa?

"Who are Europe's most elegant royal families?" asked French Vanity Fair on 26 August.

Luxembourg was ranked seventh, with the comment: "Grand Duchess Maria Teresa radiates a vibrant, colourful, sensual joy. A fervent follower of the big international fashion houses, her wardrobe exudes joy and confidence. But behind this opulence, some might accuse her of not taking risks... On 3 October 2025, the baton passes to Stéphanie, future Grand Duchess. More classic in her wardrobe choices, will she be able to offer the expected modernity?" We shall see this weekend.

Paris Match: 'Guillaume has a beautiful sensitivity', admits his father

Celebrity magazine Paris Match published an exclusive interview with Grand Duke Henri in August in which he admitted that he felt "totally free" and had full confidence in his son to officially take over as Luxembourg's head of state.

In June, the magazine referenced the documentary on 25 years of Henri's reign, in which Guillaume declared he hoped to have "inherited the best of both of my parents", such as "the spontaneity of interacting with people" like his mother, and "the sense of duty" of his father.

Henri declared himself confident in Guillaume's future and called him "very intelligent, with a beautiful sensitivity".

Vanity Fair: 'The secret significance of Princess Stéphanie's jewellery'

Another French Vanity Fair article published on 28 August was dedicated to Stéphanie's jewellery. The article was inspired by the release of the new Grand Ducal portraits, in which "Stéphanie wears a series of jewels inherited from the past, symbolising her new royal role."

The article goes on to describe Stéphanie's outfit and styling, before delving into her accessories: "But it's her jewellery that really sets the tone. A nod to generations of family history, it shows that the princess is more ready than ever to ascend to power. A gold bracelet, adorned with emeralds, sits on Stéphanie's wrist, while a pair of scrolling earrings, also made of emerald, frames her face. These jewels have a very important meaning, since the earrings date back – at least – three generations, as revealed by the specialist blog The Court Jeweler. They have also been worn many times by Grand Duchess Maria Teresa over the last quarter century."

Hello Magazine also opted to highlight the new Grand Ducal portraits, although without such an in-depth exploration of Stéphanie's attire.

Notélé: Stéphanie 'is committed to promoting Luxembourg art'

Belgian website Notélé declared on Thursday that this would be a big day for the village of Anvaing, where Countess Stéphanie de Lannoy grew up on her family's estate.

The oldest of eight, she studied in northern France and in Brussels before graduating in Germanic philology from the Catholic University of Louvain and the Humboldt University of Berlin. As a result, the future Grand Duchess is fluent in Luxembourgish, German, and English, as well as her mother tongue.

The site adds that the new Grand Duchess "has a particular interest in child protection and neuroscience", as well as the arts.

"She has always had a keen interest in classical music and is passionate about art and crafts. She is thus committed to promoting Luxembourg art on the national and international scene, launching with her husband the association "De Mains de Maîtres Luxembourg".

Gala: 'The ideal age to take up the torch'

Some weeks ago, Grand Duchess Maria Teresa gave an interview to Gala magazine in which she said her oldest son, at 43, was "the ideal age to take up the torch" as he shouldn't have to spend too much time in the role of the heir apparent.

On Thursday, Gala published a further article describing Guillaume's nervousness ahead of the accession, which was largely based on the interview he gave to RTL Today a year ago.

Tatler: 'A degree of trepidation'

British high-society magazine Tatler chose to focus on jewellery, asking which tiara Grand Duchess Stéphanie might select for the big day.

Amid the rundown of the Grand Ducal jewel collection, Tatler also referenced Guillaume's 2024 interview with RTL Today, focusing on the sense of trepidation and excitement ahead of the accession.  Our interview supplied plenty of inspiration for Tatler's recent portrait of Guillaume to mark the transition of power.
