Around 50 Global Movement to Gaza demonstrators assembled outside Luxembourg's Ministry of Foreign Affairs at lunchtime on Thursday.

The protest follows the interception of the Global Sumud Flotilla by Israeli naval authorities on Thursday, as it sought to deliver aid packages to the Gaza Strip. Aboard one of the boats was Luxembourgish activist Nora Fellens Huberty, who has not been heard from since the early hours of Thursday morning. Global Movement to Gaza says Fellens Huberty has been illegally detained, referring to the incident as "kidnapping".

Foreign minister Xavier Bettel told RTL that all were deeply concerned by the situation and that the Israeli authorities had been called upon to respect international law. The Ministry had not been given any further details to date, other than the fact that the boat had been intercepted by Israel. No one at the Ministry had had direct contact with Fellens Huberty, but Bettel said if she was in need of help then she would receive support. He added that there had been advance warnings that the flotilla could be at risk.

Global Movement to Gaza demands a stronger response from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and plans to protest a second time at 6.30pm outside the Ministry.
