Heavy flooding and a spate of alcohol-related accidents kept Luxembourg police busy on Monday night, resulting in approximately 30 emergency call-outs.
While the Grand Ducal Fire and Rescue Corps (CGDIS) responded to flooding on Monday night, police were also heavily deployed, handling approximately 30 emergency calls.
The majority of calls to the 113 emergency line were weather-related, reporting heavy rain, flooded roads, and debris blocking carriageways. These conditions contributed to several accidents where drivers lost control and veered off the road. Most incidents resulted only in material damage.
However, one accident on the A1 motorway at around 11.20pm resulted in an injury. The individual involved was transported to a hospital for evaluation.
Beyond the weather, alcohol was a significant factor in several overnight traffic incidents. In one case near Meysembourg around 11pm, a car landed in a ditch. The uninjured driver was located at home shortly thereafter and was found to be heavily under the influence of alcohol, resulting in the surrender of their driving licence.
In a separate incident on Route d'Arlon in Strassen around 12.30am, a driver fled the scene after crashing into a parked car. Police later located both the vehicle and the individual in a nearby car park. The person was intoxicated and received a fine.
A third alcohol-related accident occurred at approximately 6.15am on the N12 between Emeschbach and Stockem. A driver lost control on a bend, causing the vehicle to overturn in a ditch. Both occupants were uninjured. The driver was confirmed to be under the influence and was fined.
