On Monday morning, four individuals forcibly stole a necklace from a victim in Limpertsberg on the Avenue de la Faiencerie, at 1.30am.
According to the police, as the victim tried to retrieve it, the group fled the scene. Police managed to apprehend three of the four suspects shortly afterwards. One of them was found to be carrying two additional stolen necklaces. On the orders of the public prosecutor’s office, the suspects were taken into custody and brought before the investigating judge.
Separately, two alleged drug dealers appeared before the investigating magistrate on Sunday after an incident in Luxembourg City's Rives de Clausen district the night before. The case began when one of the men refused to leave a café. Upon arrival, police officers noticed the suspect drop a handkerchief containing six balls of cocaine. He was immediately detained and taken to the police station.
Further investigation led authorities to an acquaintance's residence, where the suspect was known to spend the night and allegedly store drugs. A search of the property uncovered more narcotics, cash, drug paraphernalia, medication, mobile phones, and an iPad, all of which were seized.
Both individuals were arrested on the orders of the public prosecutor’s office and brought before the investigating judge on Sunday afternoon.
Break-ins and burglaries
Several vehicle break-ins were reported to police over the weekend, with incidents occurring in different parts of the country. On Sunday morning, a thief broke into a car parked on Rue de la Bruyère in Kayl by smashing a window and stole a bag, according to initial police reports. Another theft occurred overnight between Sunday and Monday on Rue de Bouillon in Hollerich. A car was broken into and a wallet, among other items, was stolen.
Police have launched investigations into both incidents.
In addition to several reported thefts from vehicles, police are also investigating a number of break-ins. During Saturday night, intruders broke into a residence on Rue de la Vallée in Hollerich. The suspects searched through the rooms and stole several items. Despite search efforts, the perpetrators were not located. Later that afternoon, police received another report of a burglary, this time at a single-family home in Mersch, where various objects were also stolen.
Police are once again reminding the public of preventive measures to protect against both home burglaries and thefts from vehicles.
