Luxembourg's unemployment rate rose to 6.6% in July 2025, a negligible change compared to a year prior, although it remains above the EU average of 5.9%.

While the overall unemployment rate remains steady, numbers show considerable change when it comes to Luxembourg’s youth, new Eurostat figures show. With an unemployment rate of 20.2% as of July 2025, down from 21.4% in July 2024, the rates in the Grand Duchy still tower well above the EU’s 14.4% average.

These numbers place Luxembourg in the top five of EU countries with the highest youth unemployment rates, preceding Estonia, Sweden, Finland, and Spain.

By contrast, our neighbouring countries Germany, Belgium, and France reported unemployment rates of 3.7%, 5.8% and 7.6% respectively, with youth unemployment reaching 6.3% in Germany and 18.5% in France. No numbers were published concerning youth unemployment in Belgium.
