Drink driving remains an issue in Luxembourg, say ministers, as the number of drivers with blood alcohol levels exceeding 1.2 is extremely high.
Ministers Gloden and Backes published a response to a parliamentary question submitted by the ADR's Jeff Engelen on the topic.
Engelen wanted to know how the issue had developed since the blood alcohol limit was lowered from 0.8 to 0.5 in 2007.
The number of cases where drivers had blood alcohol levels exceeding 1.2 was alarmingly high, with over 27,400 court rulings for these cases between 2007 and 2024.
In 2024, the Grand Ducal police issued 2,100 warnings for traffic accidents caused by drink driving. In that period, there were 23 serious accidents and three fatal crashes due to intoxicated drivers.
