After peaking in 2017, the number of people refused asylum in Luxembourg increased sharply last year.

In 2024, 438 people were either deported or left the country voluntarily after they were denied asylum. This number increased by 160 compared to 2023, and by 250 compared to 2022.

Last year, 130 people were forcibly deported to their home countries, while around 300 left the Grand Duchy voluntarily.

These figures were supplied by the Minister of the Interior Léon Gloden in response to a parliamentary question submitted by the ADR MPs Tom Weidig and Fred Keup, who wanted to compare Luxembourg's figures with Germany.

Gloden said such comparisons were not strictly possible due to the different terminology used by each country, but that the new European SIS system should harmonise this process in future.
