With Luxembourgers in 2022 reporting a lower financial satisfaction rate than people in Belgium, we want to know how you feel about the money in your bank account.
Luxembourg residents rated their financial satisfaction at 6.8 out of 10 in 2022, placing the Grand Duchy slightly above the EU average of 6.6, according to a new Eurostat report. While the figure outpaces neighbouring France (6.4), it matches that in Germany (6.8), and even trails behind that in Belgium (7.1).
The data, based on self-reported responses, reflects how people across the European Union perceive their own financial situation on a scale from 0 to 10. While Luxembourg remains above the EU average, it did not reach the top tier of financial satisfaction scores.
The Netherlands and Finland topped the rankings with a score of 7.6, followed closely by Sweden (7.4), and Austria (7.3). At the other end of the spectrum, Bulgaria recorded the lowest satisfaction at 4.6, with Greece (5.3), Croatia (5.7), Slovakia (5.8), and both Hungary and Latvia (5.9) also falling below the neutral point of 6.
Overall, the EU-wide financial satisfaction average of 6.6 was slightly lower than the reported life satisfaction average of 7.1 for the same year.
Meanwhile, in 2025, Luxembourg maintained its position as the EU's salary leader, with median gross monthly wages of €4,443 in the private sector and €9,090 in the public sector. The combined median across all sectors stands at €4,764.
