The police were called out to several separate incidents between Saturday and Sunday, including a violent theft in Luxembourg City's Gare district and two cases of drink-driving in the south of the country.
Shortly before 2am on Sunday, an armed robbery was reported in Rue Jean Origer in the Gare neighbourhood. A woman sitting on a café terrace and using her mobile phone was approached by a man who snatched it from her hands before fleeing. A manhunt was immediately launched, and the suspect was quickly arrested. The stolen belongings were returned to the victim, and a report was filed.
On the evening of Saturday, 16 August, two motorists were caught driving under the influence of alcohol. In Rue Geespelt, Livange, one driver suspected of being intoxicated was later stopped in Fentange. A breath test confirmed he was over the limit, and he was issued with a temporary driving ban.
The same evening in Weiler-la-Tour, in the Schlammesté area, a police patrol intercepted a car travelling at excessive speed and driving dangerously. The female driver showed clear signs of intoxication and also tested positive for alcohol – her licence was confiscated on the spot.
