For the second time in two weeks, a major Luxembourg telecom provider faced service disruptions as Tango customers experienced a morning outage unrelated to the recent cyberattack that struck competitor POST Luxembourg.
Luxembourg telecoms operator Tango experienced a technical outage on Tuesday morning, leaving approximately half of its customers without full service for several hours. The issues, which began at 5.20am, were fully resolved by 9.30am.
In a statement to RTL, Tango confirmed that the disruption was caused by a hardware failure in its core network and not by a cyberattack. Proximus, Tango's parent company, reiterated this in a press release, ruling out any malicious activity.
Affected customers faced difficulties making calls, using mobile data, or reaching critical numbers – including emergency services (112 or 113) and the High Commissioner's Office for National Protection.
As a precaution, Luxembourg police deployed officers to all stations to ensure emergency assistance remained available. Meanwhile, the High Commissioner's Office activated its crisis unit to evaluate potential cyber risks.
Despite the outage, Tango emphasised that the emergency number 112 remained reachable at all times. As previously reported by RTL, users experiencing network issues can switch to another operator's signal to contact emergency services – though this restricts other calls.
The incident follows a major cyberattack on POST Luxembourg less than two weeks ago, which also disrupted services. Tango is the country's second-largest telecoms provider after POST.
