Police intervened around 9pm on Saturday evening following a large-scale operation to disperse an illegal rave in the Heinerscheid area.

The event, which began on Friday night and drew around 500 participants, took place without authorisation and in a nature reserve, prompting authorities to act.

Approximately 120 officers from across the country, including special units, the canine squad, and a helicopter, were deployed to the site. Teams from the Grand Ducal Fire and Rescue Corps (CGDIS), the nature conservation authority, and the public prosecutor's office in Diekirch were also involved.

Attempts to identify or contact the organiser failed, and partygoers remained uncooperative. Police began intervention around 5pm, ordering people via loudspeaker to leave the site. Many complied, causing the crowd to shrink significantly, but officers stayed on site until everyone had departed.

By 9pm, reinforcements were dispatched to ensure the remaining participants left the area. Shortly afterwards, the last guests began leaving, with some stopped and checked by police.

As part of the operation, 19 people were placed in administrative detention. Two participants resisted law enforcement and were fined for rebellion, while another was found without a valid driving licence.

On site, officers recorded several drug-related offences. All substances found were seized, and reports were drawn up in each case.

In addition, all sound and stage equipment used for the event, as well as all vehicles used to transport it, were confiscated on the orders of the Diekirch public prosecutor's office for violating nature protection laws.

Alert raised on Friday

Police reported that the 113 emergency line received calls from Heinerscheid residents on Friday night about vehicles, including trucks and camper vans, heading into the forest.

Officers found several hundred people camping but took no immediate action as there were no disturbances or other issues at the time.

Patrols intensified

By Saturday morning, after consulting local authorities, police decided to break up the event due to its unauthorised nature and the location in a protected area. Additional patrols and units were deployed throughout the day to monitor the situation and intervene when necessary.
