The Steinfort Intercommunal Hospital announced on Thursday that three cases of Legionnaires' disease – a severe form of pneumonia – were identified among senior patients.

The hospital confirmed that the Health Inspectorate was immediately informed about the contamination and is now working closely with all parties involved as part of an ongoing investigation.

The hospital also stressed that its facilities are regularly inspected in line with current regulations, with routine preventative tests conducted to detect dangerous bacteria such as legionella. Despite this, further analyses are now underway to pinpoint the possible source of contamination.

As soon as the cases were detected, the hospital implemented a series of reinforced safety measures, including additional sampling of the water network, preventative treatment of the affected facilities, and temporary reinforcement of disinfection protocols.

The concerned patients remain under constant medical supervision, including those who are not showing any alarming symptoms pointing towards Legionnaires' disease.
