With southern Europe already sweltering, Luxembourg is set to experience high temperatures early next week. Health authorities have issued public guidance as the thermometer rises.

The clouds and rain have cleared, and intense heat is on the way. Luxembourg is preparing for a spike in temperatures, with forecasts predicting highs close to 40°C over the coming days.

According to MétéoLux, the heat will build up over the weekend, with temperatures exceeding 30°C on Sunday and climbing even further at the start of the week. Tuesday could see highs of 34°C at Findel.

Other sources, including Météo Boulaide, are forecasting even higher figures, up to 37°C in the south-east, 36°C in the capital, and 35°C in the west.
The heatwave is expected to peak between Monday and Tuesday.

Ministry of Health gives tips on beating the heat

In anticipation, the Ministry of Health released a list of recommendations on Friday. Much of the advice is straightforward: stay hydrated, avoid going outside during the hottest hours of the day, seek shade, and keep a close eye on young children and older adults.

Less obvious but equally important tips include closing windows and shutters during the day, eating light meals, wearing loose and light-coloured clothing, and drinking small amounts of water regularly.

In case of heatstroke – symptoms include high body temperature, headache, nausea, or confusion – the ministry advises contacting a medical professional or calling 112.

The warning applies in particular to people vulnerable to extreme heat, though even athletes are urged to avoid physical exertion during the hottest hours.

Meteolux has issued an alert for tomorrow, Sunday 29 June, for the south of the country, from 2pm–8pm.
