Festivities officially begin on Saturday evening, with live music and DJs taking over the city centre. At Knuedler, celebrations will also mark the 25th anniversary of Grand Duke Henri’s accession to the throne. Concerts are scheduled to begin at 6pm and will continue until 1am, with stages also set up at Place Clairefontaine and Place d’Armes.
Preparations are already underway across the capital, including at the Gëlle Fra. Here, the “Friends of the Scouts of Gasperich” are returning for their 25th year, offering sausages with sauerkraut, beer, crémant and soft drinks. “This location is ideal now that the fireworks pass directly in front of us,” said club president Gilles Hermes. Around 25 volunteers will be on duty Sunday, supported by a small team managing setup and logistics.
Sunday is expected to draw the largest crowds. The torchlight procession begins at 9.30pm, starting from Théâtre and heading toward Knuedler, ending in front of the grandstand. At 11pm, the traditional National Day fireworks will light up the sky, launched from the New Bridge with music composed by Maxime Bender.
Meanwhile, over at Glacis, the “City Sounds” open-air music festival will attract between 25,000 and 30,000 visitors. A large stage has been set up for the event, which runs from Sunday into Monday. For security reasons, festivalgoers are reminded that large bags, backpacks, and professional cameras are not permitted on-site.
The official National Day ceremonies take place on Monday. The day begins with a formal celebration at the Philharmonie, followed by the military and civil parade. The Te Deum mass will then be held at the Notre-Dame Cathedral.
Due to the large number of events, there will be no parking available at the Glacis over the long weekend. Visitors are strongly advised to check public transport schedules and plan ahead. You can check the Programme, mobility information and practical advice at vdl.lu.
RTL will be covering the festivities live from Saturday to Monday across RTL Radio, RTL.lu, and RTL Play.
