Shortly after 2pm, authorities launched a search and rescue operation at the Remerschen lakes, also known as the Baggerweieren. A rescue helicopter and water patrol units were dispatched to the scene.
Initial reports indicated that an individual had been seen drowning in the lake. However, witnesses later reported that a group of friends raised the alarm after one member of their group failed to return from a swim.
Several hours later, authorities confirmed that a rescue diver had found the body of the missing person, a 63-year-old man who had tragically drowned.
After being located “the man was pulled from the water. Despite immediate resuscitation efforts, the 63-year-old was pronounced dead,” police reported around 5.30pm, adding that an investigation is ongoing.
