On Saturday, 17 May, Parking Adenauer was transformed into a vibrant second-hand market as the British Ladies Club (BLC) Car Boot Sale welcomed a lively crowd – predominantly expats – eager to buy and sell everything from homemade crafts to pre-loved treasures. The event aimed to raise funds for charities St Davids Hospice, Fondation Autisme Luxembourg, and MacMillan Cancer Support.
Organised by the BLC, the event has been a cherished tradition for over 20 years. This year’s edition featured more than 80 stands and, since relocating from the Glacis car park in Limpertsberg, introduced a delightful feature: visitors could arrive in style aboard a vintage British double-decker bus, adding a touch of nostalgic charm to the day.
The atmosphere was joyful and relaxed, with people chatting, laughing, and bonding over their unique finds. The air was filled with the mouth-watering aroma of freshly made curries – just one of the many culinary treats on offer. A dedicated children’s corner, complete with games and face painting, kept the little ones entertained throughout the day.
One of the standout attractions was the MG car display, organised by the MG Car Club. The collection of beautifully preserved British classics, some dating back to the 1960s, drew a steady crowd of admirers. Visitors were even invited to sit in the cars and soak in the vintage experience.
Among the many guests was British Ambassador Joanne Olivier, who took time to mingle with attendees and warmly engage in conversation with the cheerful crowd.
Amy Grech, Chair of the BLC, praised the dedication of the many volunteers who made the event possible. “There’s an entire parking team here managing traffic. We’ve got delicious food prepared by the Oasis Church, with proceeds going to their charities. Every part of this event is run by volunteers – they have their jobs, their families, but still manage to juggle it all. Many of our organisers have been with us for the past 20 years.”
With its lively stalls, community spirit, and charitable heart, the BLC Car Boot remains a beloved fixture on the local calendar – an event that brings people together in the most joyful of ways.
