By May this year, Luxembourg has received 328 applications for temporary protection, mostly from Ukrainians, and 619 asylum requests, with Syrians making up the largest group, while nearly 150 applications were approved and 177 rejected.

Of the 75 individuals who submitted an application for temporary protection in April, 66 were from Ukraine. This pattern holds true over the year as a whole: according to data from the Ministry of Home Affairs, 90.9% of the 328 people who applied for temporary protection in 2024 – 296 individuals – were Ukrainian. A further 5% of applicants came from Algeria.

As for applications for international protection (asylum), 128 were submitted in April, bringing the total for the year so far to 619. The majority of April’s applications came from people from Syria (27), followed by Somalia (14), Eritrea (13), and Turkey (12). Since the beginning of the year, 148 applications have been approved, while 177 have been rejected, either through the standard or accelerated procedure.
