Authorities have confirmed a bullying incident at Lycée Belval after social media footage surfaced showing two students assaulting a classmate, prompting both school discipline and police involvement.

The Ministry of Education has confirmed an incident of bullying at Lycée Belval after a video circulated on social media showing two teenage girls physically assaulting and mocking another girl. The footage, which has sparked public outrage, captures the girls hitting and verbally harassing their victim.

Authorities have confirmed to RTL that those involved are students at the Belval secondary school. The police have been notified, and the school has initiated disciplinary proceedings.

Additionally, the school plans to remind all students on Friday that recording or sharing such videos is illegal.

What to do in cases of bullying?

Combating bullying requires immediate action. Students, parents, or witnesses are urged to report incidents to school administrators or staff, or to contact a specialised anti-bullying organisation.

According to recent data, an average of six students per day in Luxembourg's secondary schools seek help from the Psychosocial and Educational Support Service (SePAS). A November–December 2022 survey across 39 secondary schools revealed that bullying ranks as the fourth most common issue reported to SePAS, following school-related stress, depression, and anxiety disorders.
