Eight years after its last Kosovo deployment, Luxembourg's military returns to the region, this time leading a multinational Benelux team in NATO's ongoing peacekeeping mission.

On Tuesday, Luxembourg's military held a departure ceremony for seven soldiers joining NATO's Kosovo Force (KFOR) as part of an historic Benelux detachment.

The 13-member unit comprises seven Luxembourgers, five Belgians, and one Dutch national.

This deployment marks the first time Luxembourg has assumed leadership of a joint Benelux operation. The detachment's primary responsibilities will oversee airspace monitoring, including through drone operations.

The Luxembourg Army brings prior Kosovo experience to this assignment, having previously deployed troops to the region between 1999 and 2017.
