The long-awaited tram connection to Luxembourg Airport will become operational on Sunday, offering a new and important link for an estimated 10,000 additional public transport users each day.

The extension between Kirchberg and Findel officially opens today, with services running from noon. Two new stops have been added: 'Senningerberg, Héienhaf' and 'Findel-Luxembourg Airport'.

The first stop connects the tram network to the Park & Ride facility on Route de Trèves, while the second provides direct access to the airport. Both will also be served by multiple bus lines.

The new route spans 3.9 kilometres, including 2 kilometres along the motorway, where the tram will reach speeds of up to 70 km/h on the newly built 'Section E'.

The line also crosses a dedicated motorway bridge constructed by Luxtram, described by the company's managing director as "a very beautiful structure illuminated at night".

Further improvements are planned at Senningerberg, where a new bus station will be built to enhance regional connectivity. Yuriko Backes, Minister of Mobility, has confirmed that, in the medium term, the stop will accommodate additional RGTR lines from eastern Luxembourg and Germany, strengthening cross-border transport links.

With this extension, Luxtram expects around 10,000 additional daily passengers, who will now be able to travel seamlessly from Luxembourg Airport to the Stade de Luxembourg without changing trams.
