According to the Luxembourg Socialist Workers’ Party (LSAP), the coalition government of the Christian Social People’s Party (CSV) and the Democratic Party (DP) currently lacks a clear energy strategy. The main opposition party warns that this uncertainty is creating chaos and undermining progress made in recent years toward the energy transition. They highlight the case of individuals who have invested in renewable energy but are now facing significantly higher electricity bills.
The LSAP insists that the government must ensure stable and affordable energy prices for all. To address this, they have put forward ten proposals for a “responsible and social” energy policy.
Key among their demands is the full reinstatement of the energy price cap for 2025, which was halved on 1 January. They are also calling for increased state investments in the electricity grid, proposing that a portion of the profits from energy companies Creos and Encevo be reinvested in infrastructure rather than simply distributed to shareholders.
This, they argue, would not only secure a sustainable energy network capable of meeting high demand but also help keep consumer prices in check.
Additionally, the LSAP is urging the government to establish a clear definition of energy poverty and finalise the Social Climate Plan.
