Luxembourg's public finances ended 2024 on a high note, with Finance Minister Gilles Roth announcing a €317 million surplus during a presentation to parliamentary committees on Tuesday.
On Tuesday, Minister of Finance Gilles Roth presented the state of public finances as of 31 December 2024 to the relevant parliamentary committees. The report highlighted significant growth in revenue alongside persistent high expenditures, culminating in a notable budget surplus.
Minister Roth revealed that the central state's revenue reached €28.4 billion, marking a 13% increase compared to the previous year. A substantial portion of this growth came from the tax office, which collected €14.5 billion – an additional €1.9 billion compared to the prior year.
Similarly, the Registration Duties, Estates, and VAT Authority (AED) reported an 11% rise in revenue, totalling €7.8 billion.
Despite these gains, state expenditures remained elevated. However, the government managed to achieve a provisional budget surplus of €317 million by the end of the year – a significant turnaround from the €500 million deficit recorded the year before.
