In a rare show of cross-party unity, young politicians from Luxembourg's four major political parties have penned an open letter urging the government to address the growing threat of disinformation and political instability.
In a rather unusual move, representatives from four political parties have jointly written an open letter to Prime Minister Luc Frieden and President of the Chamber of Deputies Claude Wiseler. The letter, signed by eight young politicians – two from each party – includes members of the Christian Social People's Party (CSV), the Democratic Party (DP), the Luxembourg Socialist Workers' Party (LSAP), and the Green Party (Déi Gréng). Each party was represented by both a male and a female politician.
In the letter, the politicians express deep concern over the growing threats to democracy, highlighting the rise of political instability both in Europe and globally. They identify disinformation, particularly through social media, as a significant challenge. To address this issue, they urge the government to take decisive action, such as improving media literacy education and strengthening support for independent media and fact-checking initiatives.
The letter, a copy of which has been obtained by our colleagues from RTL.lu, emphasises the need for cross-party collaboration to develop and sustain a robust and resilient democracy.
