Hesperange Mayor and MP Marc Lies announced a two-month political hiatus on Monday, citing personal reasons and stress recovery, assuring his absence will not disrupt municipal or parliamentary operations.
Hesperange Mayor and MP Marc Lies on Monday evening confirmed to RTL that he intends to take a political hiatus of two months, citing personal reasons and a period of heightened stress from which he wants to recover. The decision will affect both the local as well as the national mandate that the 56-year-old politician of the Christian Social People's Party (CSV) holds, though he vowed that his time off will not have any consequences on the day-to-day business of the municipality.
The local coalition between the CSV and the Democratic Party (DP), which holds 12 out of 17 seats on the Hesperange council, is thus set to fill the void without officially reallocating tasks, with Lies reportedly committed to rejoining the next council session. There are also no changes expected on the Chamber's home affairs commission, over which Lies currently presides.
Lies noted that he already informed Home Affairs Minister Léon Gloden about his decision.
