Festive cheer lit up the streets of Luxembourg on 26 December as the Young Farmers' Association brought back their popular Christmas Tour of illuminated tractor parades.
On 26 December, members of the Luxembourg Young Farmers' Association (LLJ) organised a series of tractor parades across the country, continuing a tradition that began during the Covid-19 pandemic. Known as the Christmas Tour, the event has grown increasingly popular in recent years.
During the parades, LLJ members drive through various localities in Luxembourg with decorated and illuminated tractors, spreading festive cheer and wishing people a Merry Christmas in a unique way. Some vehicles are also equipped with speakers to play music, enhancing the celebratory atmosphere.
In an interview with our colleagues from RTL Radio, LLJ President Marthe Bourg explained the origins of the initiative. She noted that the Christmas Tour was first launched in 2020, inspired by similar events held in neighbouring Germany. Bourg highlighted that the parades are not limited to tractors. Lorries and excavators also participate, all adorned with Christmas lights.
On Boxing Day 2024, the LLJ continued the tradition, driving convoys of festively decorated vehicles through towns and villages across the country. They made special stops at retirement and nursing homes, ensuring elderly residents could also enjoy the vibrant and musical spectacle. The event was further enhanced by favourable dry and cold weather.
The parades departed from various locations around the country at 4pm on Thursday, 26 December. Several local LLJ sections participated, including:
- LLJ Clervaux
- LLJ Diekirch
- LLJ Fouhren
- LLJ Centre
- LLJ South
- LLJ Grevenmacher
- LLJ Upper-Sûre
