On Christmas Day in Hamm, an intoxicated dog owner resisted arrest, injuring a police officer, after his three unleashed dogs attacked responding officers.
Around noon on Christmas Day, police were called to Rue Godchaux in Hamm, where three unleashed dogs were being aggressive towards passersby. The dogs’ owner displayed similar aggressive behavior and was found to be under the influence of both alcohol and drugs.
Despite repeated police instructions, the man refused to restrain his dogs, which continued acting aggressively, even towards officers. The situation escalated when the dogs attacked and bit the police officers, forcing them to use pepper spray to keep the animals at bay. Meanwhile, the owner also turned violent, resisting arrest and injuring a female officer's knee during the struggle. After additional patrol units arrived, the man was finally subdued. While being transported in a police vehicle, he repeatedly banged his head against the walls.
Both the injured officer and the man were taken to the hospital for treatment, where the individual admitted to consuming alcohol and drugs. Following the incident, the prosecutor ordered the seizure of the dogs, and the man was placed in temporary detention. He now faces multiple charges, including assault, injury, and resisting arrest.
Taxi robbery
In a separate incident, an armed robbery occurred early Thursday morning on Rue Erasme in Kirchberg. A taxi driver was forced to stop at the request of his passengers, one of whom then held a knife to his throat, demanding cash and valuables. The attacker made off with two mobile phones and €40.
Police quickly launched a search and tracked the suspects to an abandoned building. The male attacker was arrested and will appear before an investigative judge. His female accomplice is not being charged, as she was reportedly unaware of the robbery plan and even tried to intervene during the crime.
