The authorities report a significant fire above a garage attached to an inhabited house on Avenue de Luxembourg in Käerjeng on Friday afternoon.
The fire broke out shortly before 5 pm, but due to a quick response from the fire brigades of Suessem-Differdange, Käerjeng, and Pétange, the flames were contained quickly. Around 35 firefighters, with support from the Dippach fire brigade, were deployed to the scene.
Substantial damage to the property was prevented by the timely intervention, with the fire having been brought under control within 20 to 30 minutes. The fire was finally extinguished an hour later, and firefighters inspected the area thoroughly for remaining embers before declaring the site safe.
Käerjeng's deputy mayor told RTL in an interview that the six residents of the house - including three small children - have been temporarily relocated to a hotel for three nights. The fire had affected the annex where the property's technical installations were located, making the house uninhabitable. Electricity also had to be cut off as part of the intervention.
The authorities also report that Avenue de Luxembourg was completely closed to traffic during the intervention, and police continue to advise the public to avoid the area as investigations continue.
