Luxembourg recorded 18,625 jobseekers at the end of November 2024, an increase of 1,186 individuals (or 6.8%) compared to November 2023.
The rise primarily concerns people who have been registered for over seven months, older than 30, and are particularly qualified.
Looking at the most impacted sectors, the largest increases are seen in road transport operations, culinary production, IT, and banking professions.
Unemployment rate rises to 5.9%
The unemployment rate has risen to 5.9% of the active population.
Meanwhile, the number of new jobseeker registrations has slightly decreased. In November 2024, 2,664 residents registered with ADEM, representing a decline of 146 individuals or 5.2% compared to November 2023.
The number of resident jobseekers receiving full unemployment benefits increased by 1,070 individuals, or 11.3% year-on-year, reaching 10,533 as of 30 November.
In total, however, there have been 16.3% less job openings compared to November 2023. As of 30 November, there are 6,140 open positions.
