Daniela Schmitt, Rhineland-Palatinate State Minister for Transport announced a lifting of the ban as a reaction to the broken river lock in Müden.
On Friday around noon, Rhineland-Palatinate minister-president Alexander Schweitzer and his minister of transport visited Müden to observe the damage resulting from Monday's incident. Alongside the responsible authorities, a conference was planned to consider the best course of action.
In preparation of this conference, Alexander Schweitzer and the Luxembourgish minister for Foreign Affairs Xavier Bettel, as well as colleagues from Belgium, Saarland, Grand-Est, and Wallony, assembled to discuss the situation. All of the participants confirmed their support for the repair process and the handling of the consequences. The Moselle river is an important cargo route for the Greater Region and, due to the accident, goods inevitably need to be transported via a different method.

In that context, Daniela Schmitt announced the lifting of the Sunday driving ban for lorries, which will continue for an undetermined amount of time. It was deemed to be a necessary measure in order to ease the strain of transportation over the Moselle, currently majorly hindered. Additionally, more cargo is going to be transported on railroads during the repair period.
