In Esch-sur-Alzette, a small company is seeing growing success with its unique lagoon pool concept, as RTL Infos explores the appeal of bringing a touch of the Caribbean into the comfort of your own back garden.
On a quiet street in Esch-sur-Alzette, S&T Creation is attempting to be make Luxembourg feel a little tropical. The landscaping company has been turning heads with an unusual idea: the lagoon pool.
Unlike a traditional pool, the lagoon pool is designed to mimic a natural water feature, with gentle slopes and an irregular shape. It is constructed without concrete, using a special resin that allows water to filter through while a waterproof membrane ensures the pool remains watertight. Hidden nozzles allow the water to circulate, creating a seamless, natural effect that is visually striking.

"Initially, we focused on landscaping and green spaces. The idea for lagoons came about four years ago during a professional event in the sector. Since then, demand has been steadily growing", explains Teddy Da Silva, the company's manager.
Originally from Talange, France, Da Silva founded the company eight years ago. Over time, he has seen it grow and diversify, becoming the only firm in Luxembourg to offer these distinctive lagoon installations.
In a country not exactly known for its tropical climate, the concept seems to truly appeal to customers: the company has sold around ten of these little oases across the country. Da Silva continues: "Customers often ask for trees to enhance the tropical feel, palm trees, olive trees… The climate here has changed in recent years, and there are now species of palm that can thrive even in Luxembourg", he adds.

The project naturally comes with a cost, which can reach tens of thousands of euros depending on the size and design of the lagoon. This, however, does not appear to put customers off: the Esch-based company's order book is full for several months, providing solid visibility for S&T Creation's roughly 15 employees.
Between its water features, landscaping projects, and green space maintenance contracts, Luxembourg accounts for around 90% of the company's business. But the company is starting to make strides internationally. The firm has completed several large-scale projects abroad, including major contracts in southern France. It has also worked in central France, in Sologne, where it built a lagoon that was subsequently documented on French broadcaster's RMC's Piscines de rêve ("Dream pools") programme.
