Above-average satisfaction with democracy and governance sets Luxembourg apart in the latest Eurobarometer survey, but housing challenges remain a key concern for residents.

The Representation of the European Commission in Luxembourg unveiled the latest Eurobarometer survey results on Wednesday, highlighting above-average satisfaction levels among residents and strong trust in the European Union and democratic institutions.

Record-high trust in democracy

Luxembourg ranks first in Europe for trust in its democratic system, with 92% of residents expressing satisfaction with the way democracy functions in the country. Among young people aged 24 and under, this figure rises to an impressive 97%, according to Manon Breden of the Ilres polling institute.

Breden remarked that, given the current political instabilities in neighbouring countries, Luxembourg's stability is "a relief."

Strong confidence in the government

Trust in Luxembourg's government is similarly high, with 76% of residents expressing confidence – the highest rate in Europe. This comes just over a year after the current government assumed office.

Anne Calteux, representative of the European Commission in Luxembourg, emphasised that these results will guide the European Commission's future actions.

Calteux described the Eurobarometer as "a very important tool" that helps assess how Luxembourg residents perceive their role as European citizens, the challenges they face, and the expectations they have from the European Commission.

Key challenges

The survey identified housing as the primary concern for Luxembourg residents, followed by inflation. Other significant concerns included security and immigration, ranked third and fourth, respectively, followed by the environment and pensions.
