On Tuesday, Grand Duke Guillaume turns 44, which marks his first birthday as Luxembourg's head of state since taking the throne.

Hereditary Grand Duke Guillaume is the eldest child of Grand Duchess Maria Teresa and Grand Duke Henri. He was officially named Hereditary Grand Duke on 18 December 2000 and has been married to Countess Stéphanie de Lannoy since 19 October 2012. On 3 October 2025, he officially became Grand Duke.

The Hereditary Grand Duke became a father for the first time on 10 May 2020. At 5.13am, in Luxembourg City's Grande-Duchesse Charlotte Maternity, the new heir to the throne, Charles Jean Philippe Joseph Marie Guillaume, was born. His younger brother, Prince François, whose full name is François Henri Louis Marie Guillaume, was born on 27 March 2023.
