During the same press conference, Camille Fohl, President of the Board of Directors of the Banque et Caisse d’Épargne de l’État (Spuerkeess), announced that Françoise Thoma will remain in her post until a successor is found.
Fohl confirmed that he hopes the process of appointing a successor will be finalised by the end of the third or fourth quarter of 2026.
Françoise Thoma has been working for Spuerkees since 1999 and has served as CEO since 2016. Prior to this, she was a lawyer and a member of the Council of State. Following the revelations of the Caritas Luxembourg affair, her leadership increasingly came under scrutiny and began to be questioned. This was especially so after Luxembourg’s financial regulator, the CSSF imposed a €5.5 million fine on the bank because its internal systems were not up to date for detecting fraudulent activities. Thoma, however, defended her leadership amid the criticism.
