Local police units have been operating in Luxembourg City and Esch for the past six months, and their impact has been overwhelmingly positive, according to municipal leaders, Interior Minister Léon Gloden, and Police General Director Pascal Peters.
In total, 1,650 patrols have been carried out across both municipalities. Luxembourg City had received 20 local police officers, with four for Esch.
Officials shared encouraging results at a press conference, noting that citizens’ sense of security has noticeably improved, and business owners have expressed satisfaction with the initiative.

A key benefit of the project has been the ability for other police units to focus more on specific areas of law enforcement, such as combating drug crime.
Looking ahead, the project is set to expand. The municipality of Differdange has already applied to join the initiative, and Minister Gloden indicated that the application is likely to be approved. Other municipalities may also follow suit in the coming months.
