The Ukrainian ambassador for Belgium and Luxembourg, Natalia Anoshyna, emphasised in an interview with RTL that no compromises would be made with Russia. Winning the war on the battlefield is Kyiv's only goal.
"We are wholeheartedly grateful to our friends from Luxembourg," emphasises the ambassador in an interview in Kirchberg.
It's been over 1,000 days since Russia invaded Ukraine. A time of terror with more than 11,000 missile attacks on Ukrainian cities, more than 33,000 bombs dropped on Ukrainian land, and 9.2 gigawatts worth of generators destroyed.
More weapons needed for counter-offensive
Ukraine has over 50 allies, and while they apparently can deliver enough weaponry for self-defence, they can't supply enough to reclaim territory or launch decisive attacks. For this reason, the Ukrainian ambassador appeals to the allies for continued military support.
This is one of the conditions for winning this war, the Ukraine has to launch a counter-offensive to recapture all its territory, Anoshyna says.
"The priorities to get this back under control are, of course, the air defence systems, missiles for these systems, long-range weapons and Ukraine's right to fire these weapons at Russian military targets on its territory."
'Russia must be isolated'
Kyiv has also understood that Russia is now trying to pressure its Ukrainian partners as a means to resist the isolation. However, she stresses the importance of Putin remaining marginalised from the democratic world.
"We won't accept red carpets for terrorist number one, we won't accept telephone conversations with terrorist number one, we won't accept that the one who aggresses us is handled with gloves. We want to negotiate from a position of strength. Peace through strength, that is our approach."
No compromises to Russia
Anoshyna makes it clear that negotiations on territorial integrity are not an option for Ukraine, and that she does not understand what there even is to talk about with Russia. After all, Moscow launched a military invasion against an independent country in the 21st century.
Vladimir Putin should simply withdraw his troops from Ukrainian soil, then the war would be over. After that, there will be accountability for all the crimes committed by Russian troops against the peaceful Ukrainians.
